Cold Stunned Turtle Rescue : The unusually cold weather in January 2010 in Florida severely impacted the Sea Turtles. With the chilly winds and water temperature in the low 40's, the Sea Turtles became lethargic, rendering them helpless. The "cold-stunned" turtles became immobile, and susceptible to drowning. They washed up on our beaches or along our lagoons and rivers, and were seen floating on the surface of the water. Without proper intervention, the sea turtles would have died. Through the efforts of many volunteers, approximately 4,500 sea turtles were rescued, taken to facilities to warm them up, and then transported to various rehabilitation sites for additional care and treatment. Once the waters warmed up, the sea turtles were relased. These photos reflect the love, dedication, and hard work of countless volunteers, helping to ensure the survival of these awesome creatures.
